EDRU can offer Deaf Awareness advice to clubs and schools Integrate Deaf and hard of hearing players to clubs and liaise with club members to ensure the player(s) are managed correctly.
My name is Daniel McAllister, I am profoundly Deaf and I play rugby union for Luton RFC 2nd's in the National League 3 and I am a senior player in the England Deaf Rugby Union squad.
We are recruiting rugby players to play for the England Deaf Rugby team. We play regular international fixtures such as Wales, France and Scotland and we need new players now ! Whilst the existing squad is strong, we are looking for players who can make this squad even more stronger to win the Home Nations tournament and dominate International Deaf Rugby.
How deaf do you need to be ? It may surprise you that you do not need to have a complete hearing loss.
To qualify, you only need a combined average hearing loss of 25dB or more in both ears. This roughly translates to a minimum hearing loss in both ears or a moderate hearing loss in one ear but can hear normally in the other. Not all of us wear hearing aids or only communicate by sign language but this has never stopped all the players communicating and play rugby as a squad.
Ladies...
EDRUW is a completely new venture and therefore, seeks Ladies to join EDRU to create a 'England Deaf Rugby Union for Women'. There are a number of female players who have already joined the EDRU, however, and as always - the need for more players is essential and we need you to apply!
Carla Herbert says,
"I enquired via the EDRU website to see what my options were to play rugby for EDRUW, after some communication with the staff I was invited to join, the staff have been very accomodating and understanding, Being involved has given me more confidence to look forward to all future training sessions and be part of EDRUW and move into the future"
