Australia will host the first World Deaf Rugby sevens competition, to be held in Sydney.
The competition will take place in Sydney and EDRU have formally notified Australia that we intend to field a male and female squad at the event.
England Deaf players and officials will have to self fund the event and have already commenced fund raising on an individuel and team basis. If any individuel or company have any interest in in any form of sponsorship please, please get in touch and we can forward you our sponsorship documentation.
Male and female squads have been selected and a formal media release will be completed in the near future.
Australia have generated a great deal of interest for the event and have opened the opportunity to play up to all deaf and hard of hearing players in the form of a Barbarian process, this enables those players not selected to represent their countries to still apply separately with the opportunity to be involved in the event on an individual basis but formulating teams from all over the world to celebrate deaf rugby.
The newly formed organisation, World Deaf Rugby also supports this event to help encourage countries to participate and help grow Deaf Rugby in Deaf Sports, with the ambition to eventually be considered for Deatlympics in the future, Tony Stoyles is the Chairman, Nick Marlor is the Vice Chairman, Lyndon James is the Secretary.
