Huge success at the 1st World Deaf 7's competition in Sydney

“Ben Mousley ( Women's Coach)” The growth of our women's squad continues to go fr

Taking aside the huge awareness that this competition has given Deaf Rugby on a global scale, the success of our women's and men's team should not go unmentioned.

The women's squad played their first ever international fixture against another rugby Deaf nation. They played a five game series against Australia women's Deaf team winning the series 5-0 in five extremely close games. Therefore becoming the official world Deaf women's champions.

The men played fixtures against Australia, Fiji, Japan, Wales, Australia Barbarians, World Barbarians x 2 ( teams from South Africa, Italy, Hong Kong, NZ). After an extremely tough competition they played their arch rivals Wales Deaf in the final. With 13 minutes gone after unbelievable tries from Like Nelson and Dave Martin , England froze and gave the game to Wales with two terrible mistakes, Wales being ever professional took their opportunities and secured the title, deserved World Champions.

This event was a fantastic sounding board for the growth of the 15 aside game, with all nations aspiring to set up a World Cup competition in the near future. Undoubtedly a second world Deaf 7's competition is on the horizon.

Where next?

England Deaf Chairman Tony Stoyles, moves on to pastures new. This will be a great loss to EDRU but a huge benefit to World Deaf Rugby.
Final 7's training completed Mens + ladies squads ready to attend the World Deaf Rugby 7's in Australia ( HUGE THANK YOU TO 'ASSURANT' FOR THEIR SUPPORT AND KIT SPONSORSHIP).
